Indonesia Hopes First Gold Medal To Boost Spirit

Guangzhou, Indonesia hopes the first gold medal it gained from the 16th Asian Games on Thursday would motivate athletes to make more achievements.

Rita Subowo, the general chairperson of the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (KONI)/the Indonesian Sports Committee (KOI), said she hoped the gold medal from the 1,000 meter dragon boat event would boost athlete`s spirit and self-confidence.

"The first gold medal is expected to motivate athletes in other branches to perform maximally to win gold, silver or bronze medals," she said.

She said there was still a lot of opportunities for athletes in other sports branches to win gold medals.

She said it was still a half way and dragon boat events still offered more gold medals to grab for the Indonesian athletes.

"Other branches still offering opportunities for gold medals are karate, badminton as well as Trianingsih in the athletic," she said.

Rita called on all athletes, coaches and officials to maintain their fighting spirit to fight maximally with their best skills.

"Do not be hopeless. There are still opportunities. There are still gold medals available to grab. It is still a half way to the end of the Games," she said.

She expressed appreciation to all athletes that have gained especially gold or other medals so far.
